My Advice To You,
Here's a list of Do's and Dont's if you get stopped by the police...
1. Do not argue the law with the officer at the time you are stopped. Be respectful. That is not the time to debate the law, or whether you did or didn’t do something.
2. Do not lie. You must be truthful when ask for identifying information such as your name and address. Otherwise, you can be charged with the offence of giving False or Misleading Information to a police officer.
3. Do not volunteer information or give a statement. You are not required to admit to any illegal or criminal activity. If you volunteer information before you are in custody, even if you have not been read your Miranda Rights, those statements can be used against you. If, you are in custody and your Rights are read to you, simply but respectfully tell the officer that you wish to speak with your lawyer and make no further statements.
4. Do not give the officer consent to search your vehicle or person. Be respectful, but tell the officer that you do not give him/her your consent. If the officer chooses to search anyway, do not attempt to stop him.
5. If you are suspected of a DUI, do not refuse to take a breathalyzer if requested to do so. If you refuse, your licenses will be automatically suspended for a year.
6. Do Not Run! If you run, not only will you cast a cloud of guilt on yourself, but you will also be charged with the additional offense of Misdemeanor Obstruction of an Officer.
